Dangerous Mistakes We Made Before We Graduated From School!

‘’I just want to finish with this school, go outside and get a good job settle down and move on with my life.” Was what a friend said some days back while we had a chat at the “buka”. abeg nor ask me wetin i go find for there! in this world where there are scarcity of employment opportunities, I find it absolutely repugnant and repulsive for one to think in this manner. Thinking is free sha, but em.. you have to be realistic if you really want to be a difference!

What my friend said actually led me to write this piece, on the mistakes we made before we became a graduate and how you can avoid these same mistakes, experience is the best teacher, though true, there are lots of disadvantages learning from your experience; it is very expensive. It is always better to learn from other people’s experience, it will save you from falling into a situation that will have a lifelong trade mark on your life.

One of the mistakes we made before we became a graduate is not working to earn a money, when we find ourselves relying on our parent for support, they took care of virtually every aspect of our academic endeavor, from the school fees, to our feeding allowance, wardrobe and many others, all we knew was how to spend money. This has put many of us in a difficult position to earn money after school.

I recently spoke with a female friend on where she would like to work after school and she said the embassy. Just because she studied International Studies and Relations automatically guarantees her a place at the embassy. If by the time you graduate your dream job does not show up, what will be your next line of action? Then you wish you have gotten principles on how to make money. It’s not too late to start now, to be sincere with you, life begin the moment you begin to assume responsibility for your actions, it is time you take responsibility for yourself, your age should not be a barrier, and you are not too young or too old to doing something financially rewarding.

I have always been a critic of formal education without skill; it is unfortunate that modern educational system is overrated in the world especially in Nigeria. According to statistics, almost all Nigerian homes today have graduate, but I have also asked a basic question, how many home has employed or employable graduate? Many folks want to be done with the tertiary and go get employment, nobody wants to create job or even be self sustainable.

A lot of person outside today have degrees but they are not educated, education empowers you for success on every area of your life, while Academics on the other hand focuses on certificates, we must make a distinction between these two, the only way to make them work out is to use you academics promote your education, and you can do this by thinking outside the box. One great mistake many graduates made before graduating was not thinking outside the box.

Now to the undergraduates; you must prepare yourself for world without certificate, yes! I quite agree that we must strive to be the best in school, accumulating good grades also does help, what happens if the certificate cannot not fetch you your desirable job, what will you do? You must prepare yourself for a plan B, when plan A fails, plan B should not.
In other to avoid this, as you pursue your academic endeavor, also acquire a vocational skill; we have a lot of them that can serve you a means of earning a living while in school. For those who have graduated, acquire a skill and you will be better for it.

Many have the conception that there is still enough time, I once saw myself in this disposition too but there are consequences if you think this way, and one of them is that you tend to live your life carelessly, by the time you realize that you are no longer a baby, you must have wasted a reasonable amount of your years doing nothing. You have no reason not to start making money early in life; in fact it is even more advantageous, it is better to be doing something than to do nothing. Looking at the world we find ourselves, those making the real cash are not those working with their certificates, I am very sure you will agree with me on that.

Can I ask you a question? What services can you render that people will have to pay for? Have you wondered to ask yourself that question? To survive in this ever growing world, you must have something that people will pay for, if you don’t have one, it’s time you try as much as you can to provide services in exchange for money, the more the services you are able to render, the richer you will become. Think about it!

Police Spends N600m On Procurement Of Dogs

The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Mr Solomon Arase, has said that the Nigeria Police Force had spent over N600 million on the procurement and maintenance of foreign dogs in the last few years.

Arase made the disclosure at the inauguration of the Police Dog Breeding Centre and Ultra Modern Mounted Troop in Abuja on Thursday.
“This is certainly not sustainable in the face of the current dwindling resources,”he said.
The IG said that so much money was being spent on the importation of dogs from foreign countries that rarely adapted to the country’s policing objective.
He said that the projects inaugurated were funded within the budgetary provisions of the Force Animal Branch.
Arase said that the force animal branch had remained underutilised in the past while the force continued to rely on importation of dogs and other animals for its operations.
He said that the centre was built to aid the police acquire capacity to locally breed police dogs as well as support other security agencies in the country.
The Police boss said that the centre if effectively utilised, would save the nation some foreign exchange that would have gone into procurement of dogs from foreign countries.
The IG said that the centre had the capacity to breed and supply police dogs to the entire West African sub-region.
“It is projected that at optimal breeding capacity, it can produce well above 200 dogs per year,“he said.
He said that the establishment of the facilities was part of the long term strategies aimed at restoring police primacy and aligning it to best global standards.
In a remark, the Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, said the projects were timely considering the current security challenges facing the country.
Dambazau said that Nigerians deserved a police that was competent and reliable.
He said that the projects would not only reduce spending but would also provide job opportunities for other Nigerians aside from the police.
The high point of the occasion was a display by police dogs and award presentation to the Minister of Interior, Arase, and Mr Mike Okiro, Chairman, Police Service Commission

Asuquo Ekpe Is Dead (He Scored Nigeria's First Nations Cup Goal)..

Asuquo Ekpe, the scorer of Nigeria’s first ever goal at the Africa Cup of Nations, has passed on.

Popularly known as Ekpe Senior in his playing days, he achieved the record when Nigeria lost 6-3 to Egypt in Kumasi, Ghana in 1963.

A nephew of the famous Etim Henshaw, he played for Duke Town Primary and Secondary Schools in the 1940s and 1950s and was captain of the first national team, the famed UK Tourists of 1949.

He also played for Welch XI and Lagos Railway II from 1954 to 1965.

Ekpe will be buried in Uwanna, near Afikpo in Ebonyi State on April 9.

Naira falls to 325 on dollar shortage

The naira hit a record low of 325 to the dollar at the parallel market on Thursday as desperate importers scrambled for dollars to meet their obligations overseas.

The local currency had closed at 318 against the greenback on Wednesday, after hitting 313.5 and 310 on Tuesday and Monday, respectively.

“The dollar is falling because importers need forex to bring in their goods. They cannot keep on folding their arms because there is scarcity; they must keep buying; the only thing is that the quantity may reduce,” a forex dealer told our correspondent under condition of anonymity.

The CBN has left the official exchange rate unchanged at N197 to the dollar on its official interbank window.

America is moving toward marriage equality, and the public figures who have bravely come out have helped change perceptions and made our culture more tolerant. Still, there are laws on the books in a majority of states that allow employers to fire people based solely on their intimate orientation. There are many places where landlords can evict tenants for being gay, or where we can be barred from visiting sick partners and sharing in their legacies. Countless people, particularly kids, face fear and abuse every day because of their intimate orientation.

I don’t consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I’ve benefited from the sacrifice of others. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.

I’ll admit that this wasn’t an easy choice. Privacy remains important to me, and I’d like to hold on to a small amount of it. I’ve made Apple my life’s work, and I will continue to spend virtually all of my waking time focused on being the best CEO I can be. That’s what our employees deserve—and our customers, developers, shareholders, and supplier partners deserve it, too. Part of social progress is understanding that a person is not defined only by one’s sexuality, race, or gender. I’m an engineer, an uncle, a nature lover, a fitness nut, a son of the South, a sports fanatic, and many other things. The Nigerian Law School recently released the 2013/2014 August result, and about 4,000 students were said to have failed the examination which is a prerequisite for them to be called to Bar.

The students who paid over N300, 000 for the one year programme are angry and frustrated, blaming the their failure on the Director General of Nigerian Law School, Olarenwaju Adesola Onadeko, PM News reports.

They claimed that Onadeko wants to destroy their career by failing them en masse and they have called for a review of the examination as well as their results.

In their reaction, some of the students said: “Save Law School Students: The DG Olarenwaju Onadeko has come to destroy the future of over 70 per cent of students who wrote exams in August and has run to the United Kingdom to seek solace.

“#Please save the future of 5000 law school student, so that the results may be reviewed because some lecturers are in support of this movement as they know the DG asked for a lot of scripts to be marked down. Please this is the least you can do.

“The mass failure at the Nigerian Law School is an insult to the legal system. Kindly help address this issue by calling the attention of authorities that matters; while another simply read: “#Please save the future of 5000 law school students”.

“We the law students of Nigerian Law School protest the poor handling and marking of our Bar 2 final exam. Please we need the media to come to our aid,” an email read.

“The Nigerian Law School released the 2013/2014 August result. It was a Tsunami! Out of 6000 candidates who registered, about #2172 passed. We are talking of about #4000 students who failed”.

The Committee on Mass Wedding in Gombe State
on Tuesday said it had commenced screening of
3,000 applicants for the second batch of the
exercise.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar, the Publicity Secretary
of the Committee and Senior District Head of
Gombe, disclose this in an interview with the News
Agency in Gombe.
Abubakar said the committee, which had different
sub-committees, was mandated to screen
applicants for pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis,
among other cases.
He commended the state government for
introducing the programme, which was meant to
assist the less privileged to get married.
According to him, the scheme will reduce the
spread HIV/AIDs in the state.
He said the committee had consulted traditional
rulers and other stakeholders to ensure success of
the exercise.
The sopkesman said application forms for the
programme had been distributed to 11 local
government areas of the state as it was done in the
first batch of the initiative.
He said successful applicants would be provided
with dowry, foodstuff, clothing, furniture and
kitchen utencils.
NAN reports that 720 couples were married out
across the state under the first batch of the
programme in April.
They include 612 Muslim divorcees (Zawarawa), 76
Muslim Spinsters and 32 non Muslims.

Woman Sets Home On Fire Trying To Kill Spider With Lighter

Don’t get caught in a web of bad decisions. A woman in Hutchinson, Kansas, is charged with arson after police say she set her home on fire during an attempt to kill a spider, the Hutchinson News reports. Ginny M. Griffith, 34, told officers she used a cigarette lighter to set some towels on fire around 1:30 a.m., Friday. She was hoping to catch the little arachnid with the flaming towels and burn it to death, according to WTSP. It’s unclear if she ever caught the spider, but the fire that resulted did necessitate intervention from the fire department. Five units were summoned and managed to control the fire, which they said had multiple points of origin, within a matter of minutes. Griffith’s aggravated arson charge stems from the fact that the other half of the duplex was occupied when the blaze began. No one, besides potentially the spider, was injured in the fire and the building only suffered light smoke damage.

Chanel Tapper, a student from California, USA, has the world's longest tongue, measuring 9.75 cm (3.8 in), from tip to top lip.

Her lizard-like tongue is twice as long as the average, as long as the world's largest cockroach, as wide as your palm, the same volume as a quarter pounder hamburger and around the same length as an iPhone!!

Here what she told Guinness World Records about her record-breaking body part in an interview.

• When did you first realise that your tongue was longer than average? What happened?

 I was eight and my mom and I were taking pictures for Halloween.

In one of the pictures we stuck our tongues out. I noticed I had a long tongue when the pictures from Halloween were printed and I saw it...but I guess it became apparent in middle school when people started commenting on it.
Why I stuck my tongue out at people, I don't know... I'm goofy! But there are still some people from back then that only remember me because of my tongue!

• What reaction do you get from people when they see it?

For most people it's a jaw-dropping experience. It's like they don't believe what they see and nie out of ten times, they'll ask me to do it again.

Some girls/women have screamed/jumped back. If there are other people around, the person who saw my tongue will tell the nearest next to them.

I'll often get asked questions like, "can you touch your nose or elbow?" and, "do you choke people when you kiss them?"

But always, everyone in one way or another is entertained by seeing it.

• Despite the excitement of having achieved a Guinness World Record, if you had the choice would you keep your long tongue or choose to have a 'normal' one?

 This is my normal tongue. I was born like this, so no choice would be necessary.

• Are there any explanations for your long tongue such as other members of your family having the same trait or was it just by chance?

 My mom has a long tongue, but not like my length. I believe I was born without something underneath that prevents it from extending far.

• Does it affect your relationships in any way? Do you currently have a boyfriend and if so, what does he think?

 It does. Most guys that know or already see it automatically have their mind in the gutter, and so do some females. I don't have a boyfriend, but the last guy I dated didn't make it that big of a deal, and I really liked him for that.
