17-year-old Peace Asukwo has committed suicide over Disagreement with Yoruba Boyfriend, a 300 level student of the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
Controversy has continued to trail the alleged suicide of 17-year-old Peace Asukwo, who supposedly hanged herself last week after she was jilted by her lover of two years, Fisayo Tifase, (21).
Some of the residents of Kalejaye Street, Shasha area of Lagos State, where the incident took place, said that something was fishy as the two love-birds were sighted in jolly mood shortly before Asukwos death.
Their reasoning was that if there was a disagreement between the two lovers, they would not have been in such a mood.
However, PUNCH METRO gathered that a few minutes after they were sighted together, Asukwo was found dead in her room. She was said to have locked herself up in her room and allegedly hanged herself with a socket wire on a ceiling fan.
Her body was found unclothed dangling from the ceiling, while no suicide note was found.
Some residents, who did not mention their names, told PUNCH METRO that Tifase, who is a part three Law student of the University of Lagos, decided to end the two-years relationship with the victim on the day she allegedly killed herself.
They said they suspected that the shock of ending the relationship by Tifase could have prompted Asukwo to commit suicide.
She was young, just 17 and she was also an orphan. She believed that Fisayo (Tifase) was her ticket to the good life she had dreamt of. May be she could not cope with the bleak prospect of his departure, one of the residents said.
The suspect and the victim were involved in a love affair, but things came to a head on that fateful day when they reportedly had an argument. After telling her that I am no longer interested in the relationship, I left her in the room and she locked herself up, said Mr Tifase. I did not know that she can kill herself the way she did by hanging herself in my room. This is a suicide case and people should not think that I killed my girl friend. I love that girl to a point of no return and I can never do anything to hurt her. She killed herself, she sacrificed herself for our love, and this is what I will live with.
